A birth injury, also known as birth trauma, is defined as an injury to the infant before, during, or shortly after the birthing process. Cerebral palsy (CP) is the most serious birth injury and can be caused by a lack of oxygen at birth.
Birth injuries can arise from the following complications:
-Kernicterus (severe jaundice in the infant after birth)
-Premature delivery
-Failure to detect fetal distress
-Waiting too long to perform a cesarean section
-Giving too much pitocin
-Misreading fetal heart strips
Complications during birth can cause the following birth injuries:
-Erb's Palsy/Shoulder dystocia/Brachial palsy
Cerebral Palsy
Between 8,000-10,000 babies are diagnosed with cerebral palsy each year. 20% of these babies were injured during their birth. If your child has been diagnosed with a birth injury or if you believe your child has suffered a birth injury you may need a lawyer well versed in birth injury law. Please call today.
Birth Injury Statistics
When complications arise during your baby's birth a competent doctor or midwife will properly manage the situation, leading mother and child safely through the birthing process. However, there are times when the proper interventions are not utilized, leaving your baby at serious risk for a birth injury. Birth injuries occur in one of every 142 births in the United States.
Rates of Medical Malpractice
Amazingly, 1% of US doctors account for 55% of all medical malpractice suits. This means that if this 1% were not practicing malpractice rates would be cut in half. You have the right to know if your doctor is in this 1%.

It is not uncommon for certain kinds of cancers to go misdiagnosed until the damage to the patient is either irreversable or requires extremely aggressive treatment. Around 12% of U.S. cancer patients misdiagnosed a year with the highest rates involving breast, ovarian and cervical cancer. Some medical experts estimate that delayed cancer diagnosis may actually lead to the deaths of roughly 10,000 people a year. If you or a loved one's cancer diagnosis was misdiagnosed, the delay could have lead to increased damage or irreparable harm. You may be entitled to compensation in the way of medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Heart attacks are a common killer in America. For some, a heart attack is sudden and unpredictable. But for many, a heart attack can be predicted and prevented with treatment.
How do you prevent a heart attack? The first step is evaluating your history of symptoms and complaints of chest pain and heaviness. If you have chest pain or heaviness at rest or at moderate physical exertion, you have unstable angina and you are at risk for a sudden and unpredictable heart attack. You need to get to a hospital immediately.
Tests, such as EKGs, echocardiograms and a nuclear stress test, can help evaluate the function of your heart and let you know whether you are at risk of a heart attack.
If you have a family history of heart attacks, you should pay close attention to any signs of chest pain or heaviness, particularly if the pain pattern is unpredictable and occurs at rest or moderate physical exertion.
