An orthopedist is a physician who specializes in the correction of abnormalities of the bone and the surrounding structures which help move them such as tendons and ligaments.  This includes the prevention of injuries as well as he correction of these injuries.  Injuries can be trauma, such as a slip and fall or in a trucking accident, or in disorders, conditions, or diseases the skeleton system which causes damage.  An orthopedic surgeon is one who corrects those abnormalities through surgery.  Needless to say, an orthopedist helps patients move their bodies and has a very important role.

That is why when an orthopedic surgeon make a mistake it can result in the body not moving.  Ever again.  That’s right—orthopedic malpractice can be very serious and can really have a massive impact on a victim.  It can result in horrific pain and struggling for years and years if not permanently.

There are several common types of orthopedic malpractice to be aware of, and they include the following:

  • Failure to properly diagnose a fracture;
  • Failing to diagnose a tendon injury;
  • Failure to diagnose a ligament injury;
  • Improperly performing a spinal surgery;
  • Paralyzing a patient during a spinal surgery;
  • Causing an injection;
  • Nerve injuries during surgery;
  • Surgery errors such as anesthesia mistakes or wrong arm placement;
  • Wrong site surgery;
  • Wrong patient surgery;
  • Surgery mistakes;
  • Improperly casting an injury;
  • Improperly suturing an injury;

When a patient is seriously injured due to an orthopedist’s mistakes, it can result in very serious personal injuries which can be permanent.  Bones don’t heal well, and delaying the diagnosis of a tendon or ligament injury can end up being permanent.  These are very serious and victims can be compensated for these injuries and should be!
